Easter Seals Rio Grande Valley (RGV) significantly enhances the lives of children and adults with disabilities and their families through a comprehensive array of specialized programs. Each of these initiatives is focused on fostering independence and improving quality of life, enabling participants to thrive in various aspects of daily living.

The Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) Program stands out by providing essential services to children from birth to age three who have disabilities or developmental delays. This program, which serves approximately 2,553 children annually, offers a holistic approach through assessments and therapies, including physical, occupational, and speech-language therapy, as well as nutritional support and family case management.

For younger children in need of inclusive childcare, the Child Development Center provides an environment where children aged six weeks to five years can learn alongside their typically developing peers, accommodating approximately 35 children each year. This promotes socialization and learning in a nurturing setting.

As children age, the Pediatric Rehabilitation Program continues the support by offering therapy services in a clinic setting for those over three years old, serving eight children annually. Additionally, the Adult Services Program caters to adults requiring therapy, bridging the gap for about 25 clients who lack financial resources to access needed services.

The Help Me Grow initiative exemplifies a proactive approach to early childhood development by focusing on school readiness and early identification of potential developmental concerns. This program includes data collection and community outreach and is integral to enhancing the educational outcomes of children in the region.

Easter Seals RGV also offers home visiting programs under the Texas Home Visiting Grants, assisting families in several counties with early childhood education and parenting support. The Parents as Teachers (PAT) program, which serves 513 families annually, and the Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY) program, serving 72 families, are pivotal in empowering parents to become their child’s first teachers, fostering healthy child development from pregnancy through the early years.

In 2022, the Family Resource Center was established to further support families with young children in Hidalgo County. By offering resource navigation, counseling, and parenting workshops, the center serves approximately 100 participants, creating a vital support network in the community.

Overall, Easter Seals RGV plays a crucial role in transforming lives, providing families with the tools they need to navigate challenges, and ensuring that individuals with disabilities can lead enriched and independent lives.
