Columbus Regional Auxiliary

Columbus Regional Auxiliary, a volunteer-driven organization, is committed to making a difference in every life it touches. Their mission is to assemble a dedicated team of volunteers who actively engage with the community and patients served by Columbus Regional Healthcare Systems. The volunteers of this auxiliary offer a wide array of valuable services to patients, their families, and hospital employees. Their roles extend beyond traditional volunteering, as they also support and direct fundraising activities to benefit patients and their families. Established in 1963, the auxiliary has a long-standing history and has grown over the years, eventually merging with Doctor's Hospital Auxiliary to form Columbus Regional Auxiliary in 2013. Further evolution occurred in 2018, when the auxiliary became Piedmont Columbus Regional Auxiliary, aligning with Columbus Regional joining Piedmont Healthcare.

The volunteers at Columbus Regional Auxiliary perform various tasks throughout the organization, contributing to the overall wellbeing of patients. For instance, they support patients undergoing chemotherapy at the John B. Amos Cancer Center's Infusion Center, offering comfort and assistance. At the Cancer Center's Information Desk, volunteers welcome visitors, provide directions, and answer phone calls. In the Emergency Trauma Center, volunteers act as liaisons between families and nursing staff, providing support and performing clerical duties. In the Guest Relations Desk, volunteers assist guests and visitors, offering information and patient condition reports. In the Gift Shops, volunteers help customers find appropriate gifts for patients and families. The Healing Notes program allows individual volunteers or groups to share their musical talents with patients and visitors. In the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, volunteers welcome parents and visitors, providing assistance and care for the smallest patients. In the nursing units, volunteers serve as liaisons, assisting with clerical tasks and meeting the non-clinical needs of patients. The Play Paws program, featuring certified pet handlers and their dogs, visits children's centers and nursing units, offering increased socialization and opportunities for laughter. Volunteers also support the Pastoral Care department, visiting patients and offering comforting words. Specialized events, such as blood drives and charity sales, allow volunteers to contribute even when they cannot volunteer on a regular basis.
