Nexus - Woodbourne Family Healing

Nexus - Woodbourne Family Healing is a nonprofit organization dedicated to altering the trajectory of a child's life by fortifying families and enhancing mental health. In simpler terms, they strive to mend families and improve their overall wellbeing, thereby creating a brighter future for children.

Through their residential programs, Nexus - Woodbourne Family Healing keeps families actively involved in the therapeutic process and ensures they receive the necessary support during challenging times. While they help children develop essential skills and stability, they simultaneously address the impact of trauma and mental health issues within the family unit. Their impact was reflected in the 63 youth served during the year July 1, 2021, to June 30, 2022.

The Woodbourne School, run by Nexus - Woodbourne Family Healing, caters to the educational needs of males between grades 6 and 12, both from the residential treatment center and the community. The school provides a comprehensive schedule of classes, electives, and is recognized by the Maryland State Department of Education for special education and regular education. The organization believes that offering children a learning environment that is both safe and supportive significantly contributes to their sense of self-confidence and hope for a successful future.

Nexus - Woodbourne Vocational Program plays a crucial role in equipping students with practical skills that can be applied to their future careers and continued education. Students learn valuable skills in automotive maintenance, carpentry, and engineering. This program offers a high-quality educational experience tailored to the unique needs of the students.

Nexus - Woodbourne provides safe, specialized foster homes for children and youth between the ages of 0 and 21 who have complex mental health needs. These Treatment Foster Care families are trained and certified in medication management, crisis intervention, and trauma-informed care, ensuring the foster youth receive the best possible care and develop healthy relationships. Nexus - Woodbourne case workers collaborate closely with families, custodians, and other service providers to ensure the child's needs are met. Together, they establish achievable goals and benchmarks for each child, ultimately helping them grow and thrive. During the period July 1, 2021, to June 30, 2022, Nexus - Woodbourne served 45 youth through their Treatment Foster Care program.

Lastly, Nexus - Woodbourne Diagnostic Center serves male, female, transgender, and non-conforming youth between the ages of 14 and 18 who have experienced or are at risk of commercial sexual exploitation. The center provides a safe, nurturing environment where youth can build trusting relationships and develop coping skills to aid their journey towards wellness. Licenced, trauma-certified social workers, counselors, and healthcare staff provide treatment, clinical services, and health services, while educational services focus on life and vocational skills development. In the year July 1, 2021, to June 30, 2022, Nexus - Woodbourne served 13 youth through their Diagnostic Center.
