Mission Statement of The Refuge For Dmst

The Refuge for Dmst, a nonprofit organization, is devoted to providing a safe and holistic haven for girls aged 11 to 17 who have been victims of domestic minor sex trafficking. Recognizing the scarcity of such shelters, the Refuge aims to establish a place where these survivors can heal and rediscover hope for a new life. In collaboration with various therapeutic service providers in the Austin community, the Refuge seeks to create a circle of care around each survivor, addressing their unique emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual needs. As Christian abolitionists, the Refuge envisions a city that passionately opposes the sex trafficking of children and a community committed to restoring purpose, value, and choice to the lives of survivors.

The Refuge Circle of Care program is a comprehensive service offered by the organization, providing support to young girls between the ages of 14 and 19 who have been exploited through sex trafficking. All services are provided onsite at the Refuge Ranch. Unfortunately, in December 2021 and January 2022, the organization faced circumstances that led to the suspension of its operating license on March 11, 2022. The Refuge responded to these circumstances in accordance with the law and licensing standards, terminated necessary employees, cooperated with investigations, and was exonerated of all charges. However, the facility remained closed for the remainder of 2022, leading to most of the staff being laid off in June 2022. Despite these challenges, the Refuge for Dmst remains committed to its mission of providing a sanctuary and restorative services for survivors of domestic minor sex trafficking.
