American Lung Association

The American Lung Association is a mission-driven organization dedicated to saving lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease. In the face of ongoing health challenges, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, the American Lung Association has adapted and expanded its initiatives to address the needs of the community. It has launched online support communities, provided education and resources on COVID-19 and lung health, and offered various programs, including the Freedom from Smoking Plus cessation program, to help individuals quit smoking during the pandemic.

The organization has also continued its efforts in raising awareness, funding, and support for lung cancer research through initiatives like the Lung Force campaign and the Saved by the Scan campaign, which encourages individuals to learn about lifesaving lung cancer screenings. Additionally, the American Lung Association has taken a leading role in advocating for increased research funding and improving access to affordable healthcare for millions of Americans. Through its various programs and campaigns, the American Lung Association remains committed to making a significant impact on lung health and saving lives.

In response to the second leading cause of lung cancer, radon exposure, the American Lung Association actively encourages individuals to test their homes for radon and seeks radon mitigation if necessary. It has also led the effort to create a new five-year National Radon Action Plan to protect all Americans from radon exposure and reduce health inequities.

In a collaborative approach, the American Lung Association has teamed up with other health organizations to bring the voice of families impacted by asthma to the forefront of drug development and research, launching the Little Airways, Big Voices program. It has also published new indoor air quality resources and launched the Fend Off Flu educational campaign to increase influenza knowledge and vaccination rates.

In the fight against tobacco use and nicotine addiction, the American Lung Association has committed $2 million to research the alarming effects of vaping on kids and find a solution to vaping-related lung injury. It has also continued its education and awareness efforts on youth vaping through the Get Your Head Out of the Cloud campaign and the Vape-Free Schools Scholarship Fund, which seeks to fund schools' implementation of vape-free initiatives.

Throughout the year, the American Lung Association has relied on its growing and engaged social audience to provide accurate and trustworthy information on all lung diseases, including lung cancer, asthma, and radon exposure, across all its social channels.
